Image Description

A regiment consists of several battalions, each commanded by a Colonel. These battalions are further divided into companies and then platoons. The Indian Army has regiments for various specialisations like infantry, mechanised infantry and artillery. The Mechanized Infantry Regiment, Parachute Regiment, Gorkha rifles, Rajputana Regiment etc. are the few army regiments that make up the Infantry. The units of a regiment are called battalions and each battalion is identified by its number whose name reflects the regiment it belongs to. The Indian Army comprises 27 regiments. The specialisation of the military’s Indian Army Regiment division lies in foot combat. Since they move on foot in between fights the infantry is also called foot troops. Additionally, the Indian Army Regiments employ military vehicles, mounts and other modes of mobility. The arsenal of the Indian Army is mostly made up of Infantry Weapons.
